This year, for Jacktastica’s 16 birthday, she wanted to go camping at Tettegouche State Park in Northern, Minnesota. It holds a lot of fun-filled memories for her–she loves it there. So, camping at Tettegouche is what we did! We really had not been camping in a long time. This trip has some weather issues, but, we all tried to make the best of it while huddling under shelter from the rain. Despite the overly moist everything, we did manage to see cool stuff and have some rainy campfire fun. We had some adventures on our way up to Tettegouche as well. We did some exploring in Duluth, Minnesota stopping at the Snooty Fox Tea Shop for bubble tea, Walking along Lake Superior and lunching at the Duluth Grill. Duluth Grill has some tasty vegan options, too, so whenever we are up there, we usually stop in. On the way home, we visited Betty’s Pies an iconic restaurant in Northern, MN. It’s not so vegan friendly, but is vegetarian friendly, so, if you’re in the area, I definitely recommend a stop in to check it out.
Tettegouche State Park is widely considered to be the best state park in Minnesota. This is because, unlike many of Minnesota’s other state parks off of the main up-north drag of Hwy 61, it’s close to Duluth, MN but not too close. And, it’s large. That means campsites are not cramped together. We cart-camped while there, but they also offer drive-in, walk-in and kayak-in sites, and cabins. The campground is part of the Superior Hiking Trail which means it has great hiking. I also beautiful waterfalls and lake access with agate filled beaches. It’s easy to see why it’s such a popular camping destination, requiring reserving spots a year in advance.
