Even though official retirement is still a few years away for us, like many people, we plan for when we can cut back on work that we are good at and pays the bills, to work we love. That’s the reason we track where we’re at and where we’re going. Sharing our goals and the reality of our financial situation helps put things in perspective.
For example, For April we were only $350 closer to our retirement goal. We pay off debt and save each month, but sometimes, things outside our control effect our long term hopes. Luckily, my husband is very logical and when I get worried, he assures me that historically, we’ll be fine; And, if we are not, no one will be so we’ll be worried about much more serious things if that’s the case. What he has us focus on is long-term. Shit happens short term…good shit and bad shit…it’s the long game we’re playing. If you remember the graph Steffan shared in our first financial goals video, you’ll see ups and downs…some more significant downs and then ups again…and we’re all ok….life goes on. No matter what happens, we’ll figure out. In the meantime, we’re gonna plan, cuz that’s how we roll 🙂
For me, the actual financial stuff aside, I love the discussions Steffan and I have about our future. Working in the here and now, building a life together. I know that even if the zombie apocalypse hails down upon us…we’ll be good, cuz we’ll have a plan, but most of all, we’ll have each other. So every month, when we share the ups and downs of our retirement goals, it really matters less about the $ and more about the discussion, support and shared future…for me anyway.
I hope you enjoy the update…let us know what you think with a comment!
Happy Living,
Kelly (& Steffan)
